“Bapi, I need dancing shoes” said Trina.
Her dad asked inquisitively “Who needs shoes for dancing?”
“Isn’t one supposed to dance barefoot” added her mother from the kitchen.
“Ma, in flamenco one has to wear shoes and dance” said Trina.
“Those shoes are very expensive. We cannot afford them” her mom said firmly.
“But Ma, I won’t be able to dance without those shoes” Trina almost cried.
“Then, learn some other dance like Kathak or Bharatnatyam. No need to learn those foreign dances. Our Indian classical is good enough” said her Mom.
The young dancing diva’s dreams were shattered.

On the bright side they haven’t said no to learning to dance. Maybe she will pursue her dreams later 🙂

Oh dear, the poor girl. I can relate, we couldn’t afford fancy things either when I was a child. Maybe when she’s older she can still pursue her dream. Or become the first who mixes flamenco with classical Indian dance.
